WELCOME TO THE HIVE WIKI!
Wikis are fun websites that you can create very quickly. To build your website all
you need is your web browser. You don't need any special software to edit your wiki.
Other people can help you edit your website, or you can make it private. Wikis emphasize text information. While most are quite simple visually, they tend to be very informative
and content rich.
Some very large communities have grown up around the common mission of building a wiki. For example the well known Wikipedia project brings together thousands
of individuals to build an encyclopedia. Some Microsoft teams are building wiki sites. Some businesses use wiki sites for their teams. Some teachers are using wiki websites to encourage class colaboration on a shared project. Some group discussion wikis have been in existence for many years.
Wikis are more fun and flexible than blogs. Many people use wikis like an extension of their brain, they can be useful for building up notes on projects you are researching, or keeping track of difficult to find answers about various things. Or you can use a wiki to keep track of your thoughts on various topics.
One very successful wiki is Garnet R. Chaney's
Chat11 wiki. This wiki has an
excellent introduction to wiki.
Although
our Hive Wiki system is very simple at the moment, (it is not running the same wiki software as Chat11),
this wiki is also designed by Garnet, and will soon implement all the same features and more.
